Veterinary Surgical Services Sonoma County | Veterinary Surgeon Sonoma County

Animal Surgery in Sonoma County

At Montecito Veterinary Center, we offer a wide range of veterinary surgical procedures for cats and dogs, employing stringent surgical techniques and protocols.

During each pet surgery, a registered veterinary technician administers anesthesia. Electronic patient monitoring equipment is also used to continuously monitor your pet.

After surgery, our attention turns to pain management and post-operative monitoring. Your vet will also provide detailed instructions for at-home care.

What to Expect from Veterinary Surgery

We are committed to ensuring you're fully informed about surgical procedures and why we're recommending them for your pet. You can rest assured that we employ stringent surgical protocols. If your pet requires post-operative at-home care, we review instructions in detail.

Surgical Procedures

At Montecito Veterinary Center, our vets routinely perform these elective and non-elective surgeries:

  • Soft Tissue Surgery

Soft tissue surgical procedures are used to treat pets suffering from ear, nose, and throat disorders.

These procedures are also available for oncological, cardiothoracic, gastrointestinal, skin, hepatic, and urogenital disorders.

  • C-Sections

C-sections are typically performed when the mother is unable to give birth naturally,

During these procedures, we remove kittens or puppies from their mother's uterus.

  • Ocular

Is your pet experiencing pain, swelling, redness, or other symptoms in or around their eyes? They may require ocular surgery.

Common ocular procedures for dogs and cats include cherry eye surgery, entropion surgery, exenteration of the orbit, ectropion surgery, eyelid tumor removal, and cataract surgery.

  • Mass Removal

Dogs and cats can sometimes develop masses associated with the skin. These can also grow inside a body cavity and may turn serious or life-threatening.

Mass removal surgery is a fairly common procedure for both cats and dogs.

  • Foreign Body

Sometimes, a cat or dog will ingest a foreign object, or an object can get stuck in an animal's body as a result of an accident.

Whether your pet has eaten an item they shouldn't have or has had an accident that's left them injured, we can perform foreign body surgery to remove objects.

  • Wounds

When living tissue is torn, cut, burnt, broken, or otherwise damaged, wounds can occur.

It's imperative that any wounds on a cat or dog receive prompt, proper medical treatment. A qualified veterinarian needs to clean, disinfect, and appropriately care for them as soon as possible.

  • Spaying & Neutering

When cats or dogs are spayed or neutered, they are surgically sterilized to prevent disease and to provide them with an extended life expectancy.

  • Dental Surgery

Dental surgeries for cats and dogs can range from tooth extractions to jaw fracture repairs and treatment for gum disease,

The Surgery Process

We understand that it can be overwhelming to hear that your pet needs surgery and to contemplate what this may mean long-term. Please be assured that our veterinarians only recommend surgery when it's in the best interests of your four-legged family member.

We commit to ensuring that you fully understand why surgery is being recommended and that you are confident in making the decision to move forward.

Surgical protocols at our clinic include:

Pre-surgical assessments. Your vet will confirm the specific details of your pet's procedure with you, and perform a complete physical examination. Blood tests are also done to help us determine whether your pet faces any risk of anesthesia-related complications.

Dedicated surgical suites. Our dedicated surgical suite, where we perform surgeries, is kept completely sterile to prevent infection and cross-contamination.

Surgical attire. Our staff wears disposable caps and masks whenever they enter the surgical suite. Anyone involved in your pet's procedure also wears sterile gowns and single-use gloves.

Sterile packs and equipment. Prior to each surgery, our surgical equipment and instruments are carefully cleaned, sterilized, and wrapped.
